2020-21 Concert Season

Our 2020-21 concert season is in the planning stages and subscriber packages will be available in the coming months. We’re very excited about how things are progressing for our 29th season. Here’s a brief summary:

Special International Concert:

Ensemble Télémaque
September 2020
As part of a two-year partnership, GroundSwell is pleased to present the Marseille-based group Ensemble Télémaque. Concert features new works by Canadians Bekah SimmsRita UedaJames O’Callaghan and Winnipeg’s-own Jim Hiscott.

Regular Concert Season:

GS 1: Focus on David Behrman
October 2020
Sound artist and guest curator crys cole brings a special concert and panel discussion exploring the aesthetic of the legendary New York composer David Behrman.

GS 2: Duo d’Entre Deux
November 2020
This exceptional Duo d’Entre Deux, featuring saxophonists Nick Zoulek & Tommy Davis, was formed in Paris in 2011 and has been the tireless champions of new music ever since.

GS 3: The Correction Line
January 2021
Guest curated by Manitoban Leanne Zacharias, this concert features a stunning evening of music for cello, ensemble, and electronics. Features a world premiere by Nicole Lizée and the release of Zacharias’ first solo album.

GS 4: Quatuor Bozzini
February 2021
The Montreal-based Bozzini String Quartet is a leader in the commissioning and performance of new music around the world. This concert features a wide range of works including two premieres by Manitoba composers.

GS 5: Madeleine Hildebrand
April 2021
Manitoba’s own Madeline Hildebrand is planning a concert of music for violin, clarinet, and piano that includes commissions from David Braid and Michael Matthews.
