Together with eXperimental Improv Ensemble (XIE), the University of Manitoba Marcel A Desautels Faculty of Music is pleased to present the Winnipeg stop of the CEC’s nation-wide 25th anniversary tour. Events include a masterclass and seminar by Canadian electroacoustic music guru Kevin Austin, with presentations by Örjan Sandred and Gordon Fitzell; a performance of the winning compositions from the national electroacoustic music competition JTTP 2011; a performance of recent music from Studio FLAT; and a performance by the eXperimental Improv Ensemble (XIE). • 9:00-10:00 AM: Composition masterclass with Kevin Austin (Music 2, Studio FLAT)
• 10:00-11:15 AM & 11:30-12:30 PM: Seminar on Canadian electroacoustic music with Kevin Austin (Music 2, Room 156)
• 6:00-7:15 PM: Concert 1 - Winning compositions from the JTTP 2011 competition (Education Building, Room 290)
• 7:30-8:00 PM: CEC Meet & Greet (C.A.S.T. Building, located between Music 1 and Music 2)
• 8:00-9:00 PM: Concert 2 - Studio FLAT and the XIE (C.A.S.T. Building, located between Music 1 and Music 2)
Note: Both of tonight’s improvisations feature the XIE’s debut performance with MoFlo, an optical flow-based audio interface developed at the University of Manitoba’s Human-Computer Interaction Lab (Pourang Irani, director) by Computer Science master’s student Barrett Ens, in conjunction with the XIE.
