GS 6: Hard Thread Collective: Bloody Jack
Please join co-producers GroundSwell and Flipside Opera for the world premiere of Michael Matthews’ major song cycle Bloody Jack, fourteen song settings of poetry by Dennis Cooley, taken from his 1984 book of the same name. Based loosely on the infamous Manitoban outlaw John Krafchenko, Bloody Jack employs Rabelaisian verve to explore and explode the notions of history, poetry, story and language. The cycle will be performed by the commissioners, Laura Loewen and Dawn Bruch-Wiens, with imagery by filmmaker Aidan Ritchie, computer programming by Örjan Sandred and additional insight provided by poet Dennis Cooley, historian Kristen Treusch and composer Michael Matthews.
