GS2: Standing Wave
In October we were delighted to host Vancouver’s internationally acclaimed Standing Wave.
Fresh off a successful season featuring the release of their Juno-nominated album 20C Remix and a Western Canada Music Award for Classical Ensemble of the Year, the group presented a stellar all-Canadian program of works commissioned by and written expressly for the ensemble. The concert featured world premieres by Gaudeamus Award nominee Bekah Simms and rising star Mari Alice Conrad, as well as the Manitoba premieres of trios by emerging local composers Kiara Nathaniel and Rebeka Schroeder. The ensemble concluded the program with two works featuring live audio electronics: James O’Callaghan’s in an archipelago (2020) and my Deus ex Machina: The Nine Lives of Schrödinger’s Cat (2019). Over the course of the evening, Standing Wave offered exquisite performances and a unique path through the six works on the program.
