Vivid and contrasting chamber works for violin, viola, flute, clarinet, and piano, performed by Karl Stobbe, Élise Lavallée, Laurel Ridd, Alex Whitehead and Laura Loewen. Curated by Michael Matthews, the program features music by composers with Ukrainian roots—Valentyn Silvestrov and Anna Pidgorna—alongside a new solo violin work by Michael Matthews. Moving between stillness and intensity, the music traces a range of expressive worlds, from Silvestrov’s reflective lyricism to Pidgorna’s imaginative, characterful miniatures. The evening presents two world premieres: Pidgorna’s Tiny Choreographies of a Sleepless Mind and Matthews’ Three Pieces for Solo Violin . Together, these works create a program of striking contrasts and resonances, where distinct musical voices reveal unexpected connections across generations and styles.
