Our season begins with a concert featuring Squid in Chains, an all-star Vancouver trio featuring François Houle (basset clarinet and electronics), Douglas Schmidt (bandoneon and saxophone), and John Oliver (synthesizers, samplers, sound processing). Each musician has had a distinguished career in music performance and creation, and so the group has a wealth of individual musical and life experiences to draw upon. Their eclectic improvised music presents a dialogue between electronic and acoustic sound, creating rich, ever-evolving sonic landscapes. The unique instrumentation and approach of the group makes this trio an excellent addition to our season.
