This program brings together four vibrant contemporary works for wind quintet alongside two compelling solo percussion pieces, showcasing the expressive range of modern chamber music. Jennifer Higdon’s Autumn Music evokes shifting light and color through richly layered textures, while David Carovillano’s Secrets offers a dynamic, rhythm-driven dialogue among the instruments. Michael Matthews’ El Viento Helado (“The Frozen Wind”) reveals an atmospheric sound world of lyricism and contrast, and Amanda Harberg’s Suite for Wind Quintet provides a spirited, accessible finale. Interwoven are two solo percussion works—Andy Akiho’s virtuosic Stop Speaking for snare drum and electronics, and Alejandro Viñao’s Khan Variations for marimba—creating a program that highlights color, rhythm, and the ingenuity of today’s composers.
