GS3: Knee-deep in Clouds, A tribute to Diana McIntosh
February 11, 2025 7:30PM, Westworth United Church
Guest Curated by Luciane Cardassi

From Luciane:

“This concert honors iconic artist Diana McIntosh’s life as a performer, composer, educator, and community builder. Diana spent time in Banff throughout her life, with deep appreciation for the Rocky Mountains. As a Banff-based pianist, I met Diana on several occasions, and had the opportunity to study her original scores at the University of Manitoba Archives. This, and my intention to connect with Winnipeg artists Ben Reimer and Laurel Ridd who had worked closely with Diana, led to this program of pieces for percussion, flute and solo piano including Diana’s delightful Aiby-Aicy-Aidyai for toy piano and vocal sounds.”

In September, 2020 we aired a special two-part series celebrating GroundSwell co-founder, Diana McIntosh. Including raw archival footage, excerpts, and interviews with Ben Reimer and Vincent Ellin (Part 1) and Beverley Johnston and Laurel Ridd (Part 2).

Guest curator Luciane Cardassi (piano) is joined by Winnipeg musicians Laurel Ridd (flute) and Ben Reimer (percussion) in celebrating the musical legacy of Diana McIntosh.

From Wapta Ice (2003) for spoken text, piano, and tape
